Advantages of the digitally made crown
Very often the advantages of a process being digital and not analog are emphasized. This applies to area of our lives, from working with the state administration, through banking and to the simple things like listening to music. The advantages in the above are already indisputable and well-known. However, they are not so popular in the dentistry, because it is very rare in Bulgaria.
In our article in the section “Useful” we have already talked about the advantages of the digital work process in dentistry. However, as far this is basic and fundamental article, we decided to present things more clearly for the patient with a comparison. In this comparison, we have given the process of making a crown in analog work and in digital work – as in our clinic. We focused on the crown as a comparison, because almost every patient has a crown and from this experience he can assess the difference.
Let’s look at what practically happens from the moment when it is understood that a crown should be placed, until the moment when it is already in the patient’s mouth. Let’s start with the steps in the analog working way.
With red and a sign “!” we have indicated where usually (in a huge percentage of cases, depending on the experience of the dentist and the dental technician), errors could occur. Very often this does not even matter how experienced these specialists are. These are just limitations of the materials themselves and the way they work. It’s just the silicone is different. It shrinks over time, the patient shifts slightly as it dries. The two specialists have different understandings about crown thickness, color, tolerances and etc. As a result, in addition to this huge percentage possibility of error time duration is approximately two weeks and three hours.
If a fatal error occurs during the whole process, for example, the crown is broken during its placement or the crown does not fit the sharpened tooth, then the whole process must be repeated once more so the patient will have a finished crown in a month.
Now let’s look at the process in a fully digital clinic like ours.
For the time when you are not in the chair (which is more than four times less!) in the pleasant environment of our clinic and while drinking the wonderful Latte, which we have prepared for you, you can carry out the missed conversations and review your emails. If you decide that an hour and fifteen minutes is too long to read emails, you can go to the mall Serdika, which is 5 minutes walk from the clinic and buy gifts for your loved ones.
The question immediately arises as to how this could happen? The answer is very simple-the availability of the full range of dental equipment and the ability to work with it. To visualize it, here is what is, for example, point two – scanning in digital mode and what we see on the computer screen through CAD/CAM software:
As you can see the distances and location in the mouth, the scan is colorful and this allows us to determine the correct color in the patients’ mouth. This avoids the common problems in communication between a dentist and a dental technician in determining the color.
Then in the design of the crown itself we can set the correct parameters in millimeters:
We also don’t need to guess how the crown will look, as we are able to see it in the design.
We can also see sideways where and how the crown makes contact and, if necessary, adjust it at the design level.
Once the design of the crown itself is ready, it is sent to a 3D printer and simply printed. This way we are sure of the end result we will get and we simply cement the crown in the mouth permanently.
After that, of course, we send the patient with a smile, and the saved time and inconvenience can be used for happy moments and smiles with the loved ones.
